Three Legged Thing Brian Review
The “Three Legged Thing Brian” surely has the most interesting name of all tripods we compared in our reviews. But: behind an odd sounding name lies a great little company that produces some awesome tripods in the United Kingdom! As we were surprised about the features and quality of these tripods, we needed to include our Three Legged Thing Brian review on our page.
About “Three Legged Thing”
“Three Legged Thing” or short “3LT” is a young, small company with a punk rock attitude. They are really interesting to be honest: Three Legged Thing is a very small manufacturer of travel tripods with only four(!) full-time employees. You could really call them “boutique“! All these staff members are photography enthusiasts themselves and their knowledge and experience takes a big role when developing new tripods. They are located in the United Kingdom in the North of London and have a nice lineup of tripods for many possible budgets. Their specialized travel tripod series is aimed at travel photographers and includes some interesting models and features!
Three Legged Thing Brian Review: Key Features
The best thing about the 3LT Brian X1.1 is its versatility: with the possibilty to operate it seamlessly from 4.72″ to astonishing 78.80″(!) it is one of the most flexible tripods in the world. You can also use it as a monopod by detaching the leg from the rest of the tripod, or just remove the center column if you need to. It is made out of carbon fiber and very well-made; also one of the reasons why it can carry up to 17.60 lb of camera gear on top of it. The versatility of the 3LT Brian goes on and on: the center column can be extended twice or mounted in the other direction for macro photography. A mount for your laptop is also included, as well as a nice hardcase. All these features really positively suprised us during our Three Legged Thing Brian review!
Weight | Size folded | Operating Height | Maximum Load |
---|---|---|---|
3.50 lb | 16.50" | 4.72" - 78.80" | 17.60 lb |
With 3.50 lb the Three Legged Thing Brian is still pretty lightweight compared to other tripods - although there are tripods that are even more lightweight on the market. | Folded together the 3LT Brian has a length of 16.50", which is quite high compared to other compact travel tripods. | The minimum operating height of 4.72" is quite good, and a maximum operating height of 78.80" is outstanding. | Being able to safely support 16.80 lb of camera gear makes the "Brian" a very sturdy tripod for even heavier cameras and lenses. |
To conclude our Three Legged Thing Brian review we have to state that this tripod is one of the most versatile and well-made in the world. Its multitude of different configuration modes just overwhelmed us and should be sufficient for any use case you might imagine!
